I'm sure you saw news about Linus stepping down temporarily*, largely because he realized he was being too much of an asshole and it wasn't OK.
Makes me wonder if the kernel would be better/more popular if he wasn't an asshole; or if instead that was helpful up until a standard of quality was established. What do you think?
Saw a pair of articles that screamed "premium-mediocre." It's talking about all the activity in the Direct-To-Consumer space (think Casper Mattresses, Harry's Razors, Allbirds Shoes). A mediocre product with "premium" design.
Example of a human-user-interface (HUI) having more access than the API:
I booked a flight for the wrong day on Alaska Airlines. I had 24 hours to cancel for a full refund. I waited until the 26th hour. Couldn't cancel online (i.e. through the API), but I called a representative and he was able to do it for me.
HUIs can have more access because they can make better social judgement calls. AI may change this.
@vgr I'm working through your idea of being product-driven instead of customer-driven.
I want to read more on the product-driven approach and what makes it successful (customer development info is easy to find, thanks to lean startup et al).

My friend works as a financial planner and can't see himself being replaced by robo-visors.
Like this article says, he's right in that there will always be the kind of customer who wants to interface with humans instead. I think this is a shrinking segment, though.
And it makes him seem like a glorified user interface. But human-user-interfaces can still win where they have more access than the API.
