So basically the human visual cortex is a ZX Spectrum, seeing fine detail in black and white and inferring colour based on large chunks?

@natecull This is how YUV compression works :) JPEG relies on a similar hack (chroma subsampling)

What's perhaps more shocking is that this is apparently A Thing since color analog television.

@kureshii @natecull VHS videotape is even worse than analogue broadcast television. It only has about 80 pixels of horizontal colour resolution IIRC.
